Starcraft2 101 - Basic Guides

These are my strategies on playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Most of it are self-discoveries, research and sharing ideas with my friends. I've been a gamer of this game since Starcraft: Broadwar.

In SC2, players can now play in a variety of ranked brackets, such as:
  • 1v1 (you versus another player)
  • 2v2 (random - i.e. matched up with a random partner also in the game queue)
  • 2v2 (arranged - i.e. playing with your friends)
  • FFA (every person for themselves)

Create more SCVs/Drones/Probes

As the games starts, you start with only 50 minerals. Enough to buy a worker to gather minerals, so as much as you can train more workers in the first 5 minutes of the game. If there is a lot of minerals and gases you can produce units very quickly and in other cases can be very helpful when sendin reenforcement.

Scouting is an Advantage

If you have no clue on where your enemy's base are, then you're one step behind in the game. Knowing where they are is the best. this will allow you to position or where to settle your next expansion. As the game progresses, scouting is key to your strategies. For you to be able to discover your enemy's buildings will give you an idea of what will be your units to train. For example you discovered that your enemy is building a High Templar then it is best to produce Ghost if you're a Terran and use EMP ability against it.

Expansions for your Economy

Remember that doing an expansion can be very risky but it will boost unit production.
As much as possible, go for the gold expansion because it gives you much higher economy than the normal minerals. It is best to have some of your units deployed in this expansion because your enemy wont allow you to have a step ahead.
